Project Outcome:

A materials buyer is always challenged by management to reduce costs wherever possible. This is important in any business where there are many manufacturers and excess production capacity. A bottle filling company that utilized my services for sourcing plastic product moulds and bottles from the Asia market to include in their procurement strategy a recommendation to standardize the neck sizes of the bottles. By standardizing the cap to the most popular sized cap available and used within the production facility, the buyer could in fact negotiate a better cost for the caps. Since the bottle moulds being made were in production t was possible to standardize the neck size to be the same on all packages.

The company yielded cost savings by negotiating cost and focusing cap purchase volumes to a standard and common cap and a reduction in inventory management complexity and cost due to fewer caps being maintained and supported for product production.
