NEW VEHICLE SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE PROGRAM – HVAC EVAPORATOR MOULD REMOVAL

Executive on Demand Position:

President, Chief Operating Officer, Vice President Sales and Marketing, General Manager, Vice President Market Research

Project Outline:

Most new vehicles have in-cabin filtration systems to help reduce any reactions to allergens that may be present in the air when drawn in from the outside by a vehicle’s Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning system (HVAC). However the most common and ignored allergen is built up in the A/C systems evaporator as mould. Over time the mould is released a vehicle’s ventillation system and if a passenger is allergic to this mould a reaction is bound to occur.

The A/C evaporator is generally located on the inside of the vehicle’s metal firewall on the passenger side and behind the glove box. A very difficult area to access and most likely very expensive to remove from the vehicle to clean the mould from the evaporator itself. A specialized service tool is required to dispense a foaming mould dissolver into the evaporator housing without the need to remove the evaporator housing and related HVAC components to kill the mould.

Project Outcome:

A specialized refillable and rechargeable aerosol dispensing tool was developed that could access and administer the foaming chemical into the HVAC evaporator housing. Pressurizing the mould dissolving cleaner allows for the technician to slide a hose into the evaporator using the A/C systems vaporized water release drain hose. Once the hose has bottomed out into the evaporator housing, the technician releases the cleaning formula by opening a valve. Once this has been completed, the foam dissolves the mould and automatically flushes it out as the foam turns to liquid.
