Generic Product Specific 5 gallon/20 liter pre-printed pails

Executive on Demand Position:
President, Chief Operating Officer, General Manager, Vice President Sales, and Marketing, Vice President Logistics, Vice President Procurement

Project Outline:
A liquid packaging company specializing in low volume private branded packaging ran a costly bulk filling line due to poor productivity, expensive labels and labeling process required as many as five different labels be added to each pail in order to meet WHMIS requirements.

Project Outcome:
Develop a standardized pre-printed WHMIS based information format for each product that is packaged using the 5 gallon/20 liter bulk format. Within the artwork for the pre-printed pail is a space provided to manually apply a single label that is to be used to make the product in the pail product and brand specific to the customer. The benefits generated from this process were as follows:

  • Decrease in label cost as only one label required instead of five individually hand applied labels
  • Pre-printed pails provides a more professional appearance as all information is properly aligned each and every time
  • Decrease in label inventory cost as only one Stock Keeping Unit (SKU) is required to support each product instead of five
  • Production line productivity gain reducing the number of staff on the line from three to two personnel and increasing production capacity 5 fold per shift
